Michael Samarkos

Michael Samarkos PharmD, CPh - is currently the Director of Clinical and Consultant Services with Guardian Pharmacy of Orlando, Florida.  Guardian is a long-term care pharmacy servicing nursing home and institutionalized residents throughout the state.  Michael has more than 20 years of experience in pharmacy.  He began working in the community setting first for Eckerd Drugs then CVS/Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Manager for multiple locations in the Pinellas County area.  Michael transitioned to Clinical Pharmacy 10 years ago when he joined the Baycare Health System with Morton Plant Hospital.  He has also spent time on the staff of Florida Hospital North Pinellas as a Clinical Pharmacist.  During this time, he has increased his clinical knowledge and practice skills to assist patients in the hospital setting, as well as practitioners with medication selection, dosing guidelines, and clinical medication management.   In 2008, Michael was licensed as a consultant pharmacist and applied his clinical knowledge working independently as a consultant while continuing hospital practice.   In the clinical setting, Michael was a preceptor for 3^rd and 4^th year University of South Florida Pharmacy students and continues to work with them in the long term care setting.

Michael earned his Doctorate in Pharmacy from Nova Southeastern College of Pharmacy in 1999.    He is a current member of the American Society of Hospital Pharmacy and the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists.  He works daily to expand the role of pharmacists and is especially interested in the Pharmacist’s role in the Transitional Care setting.
